A report issued by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy ranks the Las Vegas Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) as one of the best in the nation. Recently implemented BRT routes in Las Vegas have the convenience, speed and feel of a light rail system at a fraction of the cost.
With dedicated travel lanes for the special buses and high tech stations the system makes use of existing roadways to connect outlying low density neighborhoods with destinations in the downtown high density core of the city. Considering the almost daily increases in fuel cost for private autos, the Las Vegas BRT has become a most attractive travel alternative to jobs and shopping.
Another benefit of using public mass transportation is the greater value realized from our tax dollars spent to provide and maintain the infastructure of intercity roadways. We urge everyone to park the gas guzzler and give the BRT a test run, it's destined to be an intergral part of our future.
When we sampled the new BRT routes we were more than surprised at the convenience of off-board fare collection, vehicles that offer train-like comfort and the joy of watching the scenery out the window while being quickly, quietly, and stresslessly whisked to our destination.
